It is estimated that the Dutch made over 800 million Delft tiles during a period of 200 years. Nowadays many houses that were built during the 17th and 18th century still have Delft tiles in place.Just as other Delftware, throughout the centuries the tiles became more and more items worth collecting.
Many of the 800 million tiles were plain white or simply decorated with flowers or playing children, but some of them were treated quite a bit different. They were painted in colours, with animals and sea creatures that were vaguely described by the men who roamed the seas. They showed landscapes, buildings, flowers and people and eventually became the photos and story tellers of the past centuries. Each Delft tile is unique and has its own story to tell. That makes them worth collecting, but also a wonderful gift. It might be the most unique present anyone might get on their birthday, during Christmas, jubilee, anniversary, marriage and so on!
