Turtle and flamed tiles - The least known Delft tiles

Turtle and flamed tiles are probably the least well known Delft tiles. They were already made in the 17th century but from that time period only very small numbers still remain. During the second half of the 19th century they became very popular and nowadays we are mainly able to offer tiles from this time period. They were often used in fireplaces and come in countless variations. An interesting fact is that tile factories are heaving a very hard time to reproduce these type of tiles. The original recipes were lost and they have not yet been able to figure out how the effect on the original tiles can be copied.
